DeKalbeigh is home to some of the country’s largest agricultural land holdings, and the city’s farmers market is taking over a portion of the area.
With the rise of urban development, DeKalbecans are getting a better look at what their farms are producing.
As part of the City Growers program, a group of local entrepreneurs are partnering with the city to develop the farmers market in the city.
The farmers market has a focus on local foods, including local fruit, vegetables, meat, and poultry, but there are also local crafts, artisans and vendors.
“We are really hoping that it will give people a taste of what is in the produce we grow here, because we know that there is a lot of interest in it, so we want to help people make connections with the local community,” said Chris Pemberton, co-founder of the farmers’ market.
Pemberton said he hopes the farmers markets will provide an alternative to the supermarket or farmers market.
“A lot of the things that people go to a farmers market for, they are not really the things they are going to be buying at a grocery store,” he said.
“If you go to the farmers store, you might see a few different types of vegetables and meats, but it’s not really what people are buying at the farmers stores.”
PemberTON said he plans to have more farmers markets in the region.
“There are a lot more people working in agriculture right now than ever before,” he added.
“I think that’s going to have an impact on how we grow our food in the future.
We are trying to help make the food we grow in our community better, and to provide the community with a place to connect.”
DeKalbec’s farmers are not alone in wanting to make a difference in the community.
A survey conducted by the City of DeKalby found that 85 percent of the residents are interested in the possibility of the city taking over the market.
“We’re not doing it for ourselves, but for the city,” Pembertons father said.
The city said it is considering the idea of taking over some of DeKalis farmers market property, but said it’s unlikely to go that far.
“It’s not going to happen,” said DeKalby Mayor Brian DeCarmen.
“It’s just not going in that direction.”
The farmers’ markets are part of a larger effort by DeKals residents to help revitalize the city, and it has the support of the DeKalmers City Council.
“I think it’s really important to give back to the community,” Pamberton said.
“The city of Dekalbeigh has been really supportive of us and they’ve helped us build this small community in DeKalbr.
I think they want to do the same thing.”
DeKalbeith’s farmers markets are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the farmers are welcome to come and buy as many items as they want.
The farmers’ Market is free to the public.
The City of Darkside also works to support the community by providing transportation, supplies, food, and other resources.
“As a city, we all have a responsibility to provide our community with the resources they need,” DeCheren said.
